Graffiti Removal

Volunteers help spruce up the community at the Annual Clean-Up Day

Clean up Day Video

Over the years the degree of blight in the mid valley communities has diminished thanks to the efforts of the Chamber’s Graffiti Busters. Headed up by volunteers Lefty Blasco, Frank Jones, and Walter Schulte, groups of community citizens and courts workers paint out graffiti and clean up trash from our city’s streets each week.

The program is funded solely through monetary contributions, donated paint and other necessary supplies. Over the past three years the Chamber has raised over $35,000 to support the community beautification efforts with over $33,000 being spent on insurance, gasoline, equipment repairs, supplies, maintenance of the graffiti hotline, and project management. Only 22% of the monies raised have actually been used for project management, and that portion has been exclusively for the Annual Clean-Up Day — the program’s main funding source.

The Graffiti Busters program has been in operation for over 10 years and Blasco, Jones, and Schulte have been with the program since its inception.

If you would like to participate in a weekly clean-up, serve on the Clean-Up Day Committee, donate to the program, or if you have Graffiti that needs to be removed, please call the Chamber office at (818) 989-0300.

Other graffiti removal initiatives include:
The City of Los Angeles’ Operation Clean Sweep
New Directions for Youth
Los Angeles Conservation Corp’s Clean and Green Program
